Description

2022 Senior Farmers Market Outreach Volunteers Needed This nutrition program is is seeking personable, outgoing, and engaging volunteers to support our 2022 Senior Farmers Market Nutrition Program (SFMNP) outreach efforts and to promote Senior Nutrition Programs in Kitsap County. Our outreach volunteers may find themselves: • Helping to set up/take down and staff a market booth (weekend availability a must), promoting Meals on Wheels Kitsap and the Senior Farmers Market Nutrition Program (out in the community) • Distributing SFMNP applications to our community partners (out in the community) • Posting flyers/posters at local businesses (out in the community) • Using a second language skill - Spanish/Tagalog fluency a major plus – to support outreach efforts to be more inclusive About the Senior Farmers Market Nutrition Program The United States Department of Agriculture provides $40 of checks for income eligible senior residents of Kitsap County to use at pre-approved area farmers markets and farm stands to purchase fresh produce of their choice. This program provides `free’ money to encourage seniors to eat healthier while also supporting local growers. Outreach efforts are focused on getting more local seniors: aware and encouraged to apply for the checks and to discover the benefits of Kitsap Senior Nutrition Programs. Successful volunteers should be: • Available on some weekends to help staff booths and occasional Thursday late afternoon • Able to comfortably lift 20 pounds, kneel, and bend (they will also help assemble/take down booth/tent/tables, carry supplies) • Dependable, punctual, inclusive and personable • Self-directed, willing to take initiative, and work well independently • Respectful, and maintain confidentiality of volunteers, partners, clients and donors • Able and willing to drive their own vehicle • Be a positive agency ambassador reflecting the values and mission, including having a working knowledge of our program and services. *********************************************************************************** WHAT YOU NEED TO KNOW ABOUT THE RSVP (RETIRED AND SENIOR VOLUNTEEER PROGRAM) for volunteers age 55+ The AmeriCorps RSVP is the nation's largest network for volunteers age 55 and older. This program is sponsored by Lutheran Community Services Northwest. The growing segment of our older population is vital to strengthening our communities through their interest in helping others. As an RSVP volunteer, you are strengthening the positive impact people 55 and over have in our communities. RSVP offers maximum flexibility and choice to its volunteers as it matches their personal interests with opportunities to serve in their communities. Current RSVP volunteer positions include local food banks, congregate meal sites, non-profit thrift stores (shopping assistants, sorters, warehouse assistant) museums, hospitals, reading/enrichment/tutoring/mentoring groups, and administrative positions throughout the Kitsap County and Pierce County (Tacoma, Puyallup, Graham, Lakewood and Gig Harbor Peninsula.)
