Hiring rate - $15.60 - $17.14/hour depending on experience. This position is Part-time - scheduled to work M-F, 32 hours / week. Position Overview Warehouse Generalist - Cooler Assistant Marion Polk Food Share is the regional food bank serving Marion and Polk counties. Support from our local community makes it possible for the Food Share to collect and distribute nutritious food for children, adults, and seniors through more than 100 partner programs, including food pantries, meal sites and home-delivered meals and to carry out programs to address the root causes of hunger. At the Food Share, our commitment is to: Treat all people as our neighbor Encourage creativity and be willing to take risks Listen first and seek to understand Focus on shared goals Celebrate diversity, ensure dignity and act equitably Statement of Purpose: The Cooler Assistant plays an essential role in the safe and efficient flow of retail food through the warehouse and supporting Food Share partner agencies to provide their clients with fresh, nutritious produce and other cold food items. Summary of Role: Receives and sorts produce and cold product and assists with product flow in the warehouse cooler. Also operates as part of the warehouse team to efficiently move product through the warehouse in any capacity needed. Core Areas of Responsibility Responsible for accurately sorting food and helping to maintain organization of the warehouse shopping cooler. Works with the warehouse team to assist in managing the product flow through the warehouse, as needed. Cross-trains in all warehouse functions **This position has no supervisory responsibilities but will provide leadership, guidance and training to volunteers. Areas of Responsibility, Evaluation and Essential Functions: Responsible for accurately sorting food and helping to maintain organization of the warehouse shopping cooler. Accurately sorts produce and cold product received daily from partner stores while upholding food safety standards. Maintains the cleanliness of the sorting area, food recovery tubs, and cooler. Helps to manage product flow in cooler according to first in, first out (FIFO) standards. Ensures quality of cooler product by pulling out unusable food and creating a safe and pleasant shopping experience for our Partner Agencies. Safely operates pallet jacks and pallet wrapping equipment. Works as a part of the team to receive incoming food from partner stores. Maintains a courteous and professional work environment for volunteers, staff, partner agencies and community members. Records and maintains accurate orders and inventory data in paper and electronic records. Supports the Retail Sort Coordinator with training volunteers in sorting produce, cleaning, sanitizing, following food safety guidelines and managing product flow. Works with the warehouse team to assist in managing the product flow through the warehouse, as needed. May help to accurately fill, stage, and load food orders for Partner Agencies. May help to load and unload trucks for food distribution, keeping goods free from damage and consistent with food safety best practices. Supports in covering the receiving desk as needed. Assists in maintaining cleanliness and sanitation of warehouse, freezers, coolers, equipment, and supplies. Promotes a safe working environment and informs Warehouse Manager of any accidents or incidents while on the job. Functions as a team player with all other Warehouse staff to step in and assist other positions when needed. Cross-trains in other Warehouse Generalist positions (VAC Assistant and Order Filler). Rides with drivers to assist with deliveries or pickups as needed. Other duties as required to support warehouse operations in any capacity. Job Conditions: Work may be performed standing, kneeling, bending, or walking for prolonged periods of time. Work may be performed outside or in a warehouse environment with temperatures that vary from the walk-in freezer and cooler to summer outdoor temperatures. Will frequently lift, move, and carry objects more than 50 pounds and push and pull loads up to 1500 pounds on carts and pallet jacks. Frequent use of a variety of warehouse equipment. The Food Share provides essential services to our neighbors in Marion and Polk counties. As a result, all Food Share employees may be asked to report to work during local public health, weather, or other environmental emergencies. EOE. RequirementsEducation and/or Experience; Certificates/Licenses/Registrations: One year of experience working in a warehouse, production, food processing or grocery store environment. Knowledge of commonly used concepts, practices, and procedures within warehouse industry. Basic math and reading skills. Basic computer skills, preferably with experience in Microsoft Word, Excel and Outlook. Prior experience with a computerized inventory system preferred. Current Food Handler's certification or obtain one within 30 days. Pallet jack and/or Forklift certified or able to obtain within 30 days. Must pass pre-employment drug screen (THC excluded) and full background check, which may include driving record check. Depending on the position applied for, a criminal history does not necessarily bar employment with the Food Share. Necessary Knowledge, Skills and Abilities: Supports the mission of Food Share. The ability to perform functions with minimal direction with an emphasis on safety. Ability to adapt to change in the workplace and shift priorities easily. Able to work with volunteers, staff, and community partners as a part of the team. Able to work well under pressure with frequent interruptions. Able to exercise sound judgement daily.
