NORTH KINGSTOWN, RI — A potentially busy summer weekend could turn into a bust at Town Beach in North Kingstown this weekend after the Rhode Island Department of Health recommended the closing the beach to swimming on Friday due to high bacteria levels. The announcement of the determination was made early Friday evening. The RIDOH said they will monitor and review beach water quality to determine whether the status of the beach can change. On Friday, the RI DOH recommended reopening Hazard's Beach and Gooseberry Beach in Newport because bacteria levels had returned to safe levels. The most up-to-date beach information is available through a recorded message on RIDOH's beaches telephone line at 401-222-2751.
