Water Main Breaks Cause Discoloration In North Kingstown

NORTH KINGSTOWN, MA — With recent water main breaks causing discolored water in some parts of North Kingstown and Narragansett, some residents may be experiencing discolored water from the sediment that has been stirred up through the breaks. Recent breaks have occurred in Narragansett and on Boston Neck Road in North Kingstown. A area-wide hydrant flushing program will begin in the Saunderstown section of North Kingstown that is designed to flush out those sediments. "Once we are finished with the flushing program all water mains and services will run clear again," North Kingstown town officials said. Officials said that if discolored water is appearing in a home the quickest way to possibly solve the program is flushing water through all outside spigots first, then once that water begins to run clear, run the inside faucets until they are clear as well. Those with a whole house filter are designed to remove the cartridge while flushing the home to minimize the impact of discolored water in the home. "It may take some time for the distribution system piping in the streets to clear up, but they will eventually clear," town officials said. "Again, thank you for your patience and our apologies for the inconvenience."
