Dunham Cellars, a family owned winery in Walla Walla, has an open position on our production team. The candidate will hold a hybrid position, primarily general winery maintenance but will assist with winemaking duties when necessary. Position Summary The Maintenance Mechanic is responsible for the operation, safety, and repair of all winery equipment. Under minimal supervision, the position performs a wide variety of skilled mechanical and electrical duties including installation, maintenance, troubleshooting, and repair of production equipment. In addition to equipment, general winery building and office maintenance will be included. The Maintenance Mechanic will assist with winemaking operations to help the production team stay on schedule and fill in as needed. Cellar work will be done within SOP guidelines and work orders will be completed with accuracy. Forklift skills are critical for barrel movements and packaged wine movements. Availability for harvest season (August thru October) overtime hours is required. The Maintenance Mechanic reports to the Winemaker and Assistant Winemaker. Maintenance Mechanic Essential Duties and Responsibilities -Equipment maintenance: destemmer/crusher, grape presses, optical sorter, Waukesha positive displacement pumps, Yamada diaphragm air pumps, transfer hose and washdown hose repair, pressure washers, various winemaking tools, ozone machine, steam generator -Basic vehicle fleet maintenance: diesel and gasoline pickup trucks, LP forklifts, gooseneck trailer, 4-wheeler -Building maintenance: HVAC, humidity, glycol cooling/heating systems, boiler, air compressors, Airocide units -Utilizes basic maintenance skills: MIG welding (stainless and aluminum), equipment adjustment, basic plumbing, troubleshooting and lubrication, PLCs -Knowledge of basic industrial electricity: 110v, 220v, and 230v three-phase -Scissor lift operation -Maintain service logs and regular service intervals -Follow and/or help create maintenance SOPs -Ensure and maintain compliance with safety, including all OSHA, and regulatory standards -Must be able to work independently Cellar Work Essential Duties and Responsibilities -Ability to follow, observe and enforce all safety rules and regulations -Teamwork and communication skills are critical for all winemaking operations -Leadership skills are imperative – full-time staff act as supervisors to temporary staff during harvest and bottling -Assist with cellar operations: barrel pump out outs, barrel filling, racking, blending, transfers, crossflow filtration, making additions, topping, bottling, cleaning, and sanitation -Forklift skills required (certification done on-site) -Driver’s license required -Truck and gooseneck trailer experience is a plus
