Rhode Island was named the fifth-best state in the country to have a baby by the personal finance website WalletHub. The ranking was calculated based on 32 factors, including paid leave policy, infant mortality rates and more. Massachusetts was at the top of the list, followed by Minnesota and Vermont. Mississippi, South Carolina and Alabama, respectively, were at the bottom. Rhode Island fared best in the parental leave policy category, ranking fourth in the country.
