David will be guiding your casual wine tasting of four boutique wines this Sunday, March 27th 2022 from 12pm to 3pm at The Cellar and Pantry inside the beautiful Delray Beach Market Food Hall.One of the featured wines is BRAND - Riesling Trocken - Pfalz, Germany from Fifth-generation winemakers Daniel and Jonas Brand took over the family winery from their father Jürgen in 2014 – with his support they expanded from 12 to 18ha and transitioned production to fully organic and natural. In this year, Jonas produced his first 900 bottles of natural wine, from an old-vine Sylvaner vineyard; 2/3 was undrinkable. Undaunted, the brothers now have the whole estate under organic cultivation and are producing a large amount of wine with no added sulphur.If in some way the brothers, and their unique, crystalline natural wines, seem to have come out of nowhere, there is a context here. Their father, Jürgen, was one of the first advocates for environmentally conscious agriculture, joining an important organic organization in 1994. However, it wasn’t until Daniel came into the winery in 2014 that they made the transition to organic viticulture. Certified organic since vintage 2017. In the vineyards, they will only spray low amounts of copper and sulfur. They are also practicing biodynamics in the vineyard and use assorted soaps, oils, herbs and teas on the vines.They are also pursuing parts of the biodynamic philosophies, with the very real desire to understand and integrate its principles, without necessarily blindly following the ideology. The brothers, for their own parts, have worked with a bevy of “who’s who” producers including Lise and Bertrand Jousset in the Loire, and Alwin Jurtschitsch in Austria’s Kamptal.There will be one other wine from this vineyard from highest elevation at the estate, 5-day cold maceration, fermentation and élevage in 1200L on gross lees:Müller - Thurgau Pur You can expect each weekend to have a fresh new quartet of special wines!
