NEWPORT, RI — Construction on Storer Park is officially complete, Newport City Officials announced Friday. The park is back open to the public with a new Harbor Walk, sweeping views of the harbor and new grassy areas where concrete used to be. The Harbor Walk features 1,200 feet of new sidewalk, including new accessibility improvements at park entrances that meet the standards of the Americans With Disabilities Act. A new, accessible walkway connects the sidewalks on the Goat Island Bridge to the park. The park has been under construction since February, aided by unseasonably mild winter weather. Along with building the new sidewalks, the project repaired the damaged seawall. "Through the efforts of City Council, City Manager, Director of Public Works, City Engineer, East Coast Construction, and GZA Engineers, Storer Park and the Goat Island Causeway have been transformed from a field of broken concrete and bent steel to a field of green grass which is accessible to all," the city said.
