A one day workshop on how to operate a profitable small sawmill business. Group discussions and demos at the UNH sawmill. Note April 2 Sat A one day workshop that at 8 am we open the doors for sign ins and to enjoy coffee, donuts and fruit. At 9 am we begin the discussions about the business of operating a small sawmill operation. During the day we expand the discussion to sourcing logs, sawmill equipment, dry kiln equipment, business management and marketing lumber products. We have lunch at noon and end the day with demonstrations of log sawing and lumber grading at 4 pm. We include discussions of live edge slab production and drying. Dry kiln discussions involve multiple types of kilns, including solar, dehumidification, traditional steam and hot water and vacuum dry kilns. The site is the Thompson School Sawmill on the campus of the University of New Hampshire in Durham, NH. Nearby hotels include the Holiday Inn Express that offers a rate for university functions. The cost is $45 per attendee and includes lunch and a business guide. This workshop is sponsored by the US Forest Service Wood Education and Resource Center of Princeton, WV.
