JERSEY CITY, NJ —The school district is mourning a Jersey City sixth-grader who died Thursday, officials said. Jersey City Board of Education President Sudhan Thomas said in a statement that the child, who was not named, died at the hospital of "medical complications" Thursday morning. The child was a student at Frank R. Conwell Middle School No. 4. Thomas did not give a cause of death. "On behalf of the board, staff, and students of the Jersey City Public Schools, we extend our deepest sympathy to his family and friends during this difficult time," said Thomas, who noted that the student "will be missed by his friends, teachers, and administrators." Sudhan said the school nurse called the family Wednesday. The family took the child for a medical follow up because he did not feel well, he said. The child previously attended Dr. Ercel Webb School No. 22. Thomas asked acting Superintendent Franklin Walker to coordinate grief counseling and support for the students at Frank R. Conwell Middle School No. 4. Email: [email protected]
