About Bluma We are currently hiring for multiple positions. You can see a list of all the open positions on our website. Bluma Farm is going into its eighth season of production. Bluma is a certified organic flower farm and floral design studio located in Berkeley on a rooftop farm. Bluma grows over 50 varieties of cut flowers and culinary herbs. Bluma sells retail through an online shop and occasional popups. Bluma also sells weekly to grocery stores and florists as well as offering design for weddings and events and a flower subscription. Joanna is committed to farming organically and providing high quality, local and organic flowers to her Bay Area community. Bluma is uniquely located on top of a building in her hometown of Berkeley. She enjoys having friends, customers, and students visit her farm. Bluma Farm is in full production during the summer. Joanna hopes to extend her season into the winter and Spring as well. The farm and design studio employs between 2-5 people. Position Summary The Part Time Field Crew Position reports to the Farm Owner and works with a small team to achieve weekly and monthly production and harvest goals. This includes tasks such as: bed preparation, propagation, transplanting, weeding, irrigation, harvest, and post-harvest handling. And may include helping with holiday popups, deliveries and floral design. Once the season gets under way the majority of the farm tasks are centered around the harvest and delivery schedule. The ideal candidate has at least 1 year of experience on a production farm ideally a flower farm and is able to work quickly and efficiently on their own as well as in a team. The ideal candidate also has a passion for organic farming and flowers. Most importantly, the candidate for the position has a good sense of humor, a strong work ethic and is punctual. Must be able to lift 50lbs, able to work in all weather conditions, and able to work weekends. Must have a clean driving record and a current drivers license and have reliable transportation to and from the farm in Berkeley. Pay and Benefits Seasonal Part-Time (16-24 hrs/wk, March through October, with possibility of extending through the winter) Schedule: Mon/Thurs (during height of season additionally working some Sundays) Wage: DOE starting at $17 Performance Reviews and the possibility of raises and bonuses Potential opportunities for longterm employment Possibility to combine with other roles within the company for Full Time work Key Relationships: Reports to: Farm Owner Joanna Letz Major Responsibilities Meet with owner and farm crew to go over weekly and monthly lists of priorities and set daily goals to achieve them. Help keep the rooftop farm clean and organized and free of debris or walking hazards Help with daily harvest and post harvest handling of flowers Help with irrigation and repairs Weekly bed prep, weeding and propagation tasks Help keep records of daily harvests and project times. Help foster a healthy work environment Drive cargo van on occasion Work floral holiday popups and events at the farm or other nearby locations Candidate Specification: Key Selection Criteria ** We take COVID-19 seriously and expect all employees to be fully vaccinated (with proof) and to follow all relevant COVID guidelines, including wearing a mask if directed by owners. ** Ideal Experience 1 years experience on a production farm, ideally a flower farm. Experience with weed management, harvest and post harvest handling of cut flowers. Experience in plant propagation Experience with irrigation Excited about joining a small crew on a ¼ acre rooftop flower farm Experience with customer service a plus Critical Competencies for Success: Bluma’s mission is based on its high standards of quality in both product and organic farming practices.
