Press release from the City of Des Moines: December 9, 2020 Des Moines, Iowa – December 9, 2020 – Housing assistance is on the way for hundreds of Des Moines residents. The City Council on Monday night approved the reallocation of $500,000 from the City's general fund to provide additional COVID-19 relief to support the residents of Des Moines. The funds, designated for mortgage and rental assistance as well as aid to those experiencing homelessness, had an immediate impact in the community. "We knew there was an urgent need for this assistance, and we needed to act," Neighborhood Services Director Chris Johansen said. "After delivering the funds to IMPACT and Home Inc., they received hundreds of phone calls and begun assisting residents." In the first three hours, IMPACT Community Action Partnership scheduled 170 appointments to meet with families from now until December 23. Home Inc. will be taking new appointments on January 5th after they work with families that have been on their waiting list. This press release was produced by the City of Des Moines.
