JERSEY CITY, NJ — A 21-year-old man was shot dead Saturday afternoon in Jersey City, according to Hudson County Prosecutor Esther Suarez.
This comes a few days after a 17-year-old teenage girl in Jersey City died of a gunshot wound, after she was sent home by the Jersey City Medical Center. There is no information that the two deaths are related.
In the most recent incident, this past Saturday, Jersey City police were called to the area of Ocean Avenue between Bidwell and Bayview avenues shortly after 3:15 p.m. Officers found the victim, a 21-year-old Jersey City male, later identified as Akim Ward, with gunshot wound(s) to the upper body. He was taken to the Jersey City Medical Center where he was pronounced dead at 3:31 p.m.
No arrests have been made at this time.
The 17-year-old Jersey City girl was shot Wednesday night and died Thursday morning.
Just before 8 p.m. on Wednesday, April 1, Jersey City police responded to a report of shots fired in the area of Martin Luther King Drive and Forrest Street.
Responding officers founded an 18-year-old man who had sustained gunshot wounds tothe lower body and was taken to the Jersey City Medical Center.
A second victim, the teen girl, was located on the corner of Martin Luther King Drive andOak Street. She also sustained a gunshot wound to her lower body and was transported to the Jersey City Medical Center for treatment. She was later released, but was brought back to the Jersey City Medical Center the next morning, Thursday, April 2, said the prosecutor.
She was pronounced dead at 10:57 a.m. Thursday at the hospital.
