Press release from the City of Houston : March 23, 2022 Mayor Turner discusses unanimous vote on Houston Police Officers' Union contract March 23, 2022 --Today, Mayor Sylvester Turner and City Council members unanimously approved a contract with the Houston Police Officers' Union (HPOU). The three-year contract provides police officers with a 10.5 percent pay increase, $6.7 million in special pay and funding for new crime reduction technology over three years. After the vote passed, Mayor Turner thanked the City's negotiating team, including City Attorney Arturo Michel and others. "These negotiations are never easy, so I appreciate the collective effort," said Mayor Turner. The combined cost of the HPOU contract is $125.4 million over three years. "In this City, we have never defunded the police, and we have always stood with our officers and recognized their service and sacrifice.
