Are There Any Songwriters Here? Hello, I belong to the Las Vegas Songwriters Association (LVSA) which has been in existence here in Vegas for the past 25+ years. Although we have our share of experienced members with songs recorded by national artists, we also have beginners who just want to learn how to write songs, as well as those who are somewhere in between. We meet weekly and always welcome anyone interested. I myself have been a member since 2010 when we moved here from Hawaii. During our weekly meetings we listen to and discuss the lyrics or songs that we bring in, with suggestions from the group to help make them better. It is not required to bring anything, you can just sit in and see how the process works and even offer your own opinions on the lyrics or songs. We have members who write only words (lyricists) and members who write mostly music (composers). Many times the lyricists and composers get together and write complete songs. We also have contacts with some major music song markets such as in Nashville, where we occasionally get to submit our songs for evaluation by music publishers, producers and other industry professionals. Some of us have had success in getting our songs "picked up", ie., taken for further listening by artists with upcoming recording projects which is how some members have gotten recording contracts for their songs. But most of all, for me songwriting is a rewarding and satisfying pastime. When a song is finished it feels like a genuinely worthwhile achievement. Even if nothing further happens to it, perhaps someday my kids or even grandkids will have something to remember me by.
