SAN JUAN CAPISTRANO, CA — The Camino Real Playhouse is searching for ways to stay in the community's focus during the coronavirus shutdown. The local theater, which was preparing to showcase the Dan Blackley directed production of Mel Brooks'classic musical "Young Frankenstein," instead went dark this spring. Likewise, performances of "The Nerd," and "The Curious Incident of the Dog in the Night-Time" are also postponed for an unknown period of time. "The show will go on, eventually,"the sign outside the playhouse reads. Meanwhile, we're all just waiting in what they call an "extended intermission." In the mean time, the playhouse is rerunning their vintage hits on their Facebook page. If you want a good laugh, a thought provoking tale, or a gasp-worthy story turn, take 10 minutes to view these 10 minute plays. The theater's ShowOff! International Play writing Festival is a favorite for fans and patrons of the theater. Every year, almost 200 10-minute plays of drama, comedy, and intrigue are entered by playwrights from around the U.S. and countries as far away as Australia and New Zealand. "Our talented Playhouse staff then selects the top 7 entries and assigns a different director for each play," they explained. "At each nightly performance, the audience sees all 7 plays and gets to vote for their favorites." Some winners you can see on their Facebook page or Youtube: Bless Me Father. Have I Sinned?
