Lazuli Shoals at Looking Glass Coffee Join us for Lazuli Shoals! All-Ages. Free. Lazuli Shoals formed in 2017 to play the work of songwriter/guitarist Tom Armstrong. As a progressive rock band in the tradition of 70’s folk rock, their music combines blues patterns and unique chord structures with a driving drum and bass line. The music narrates life’s celebrations, struggles and connection to nature. The group’s first album “Brooding,” was published February 2018 and can be heard on the band’s website- lazulishoals.com About the artists: Tom Armstrong-guitar, vocals Tom began playing guitar as a pre-teen and was inspired by Led Zeppelin, Cream, Pink Floyd, the Beatles “White Album”, and others of that era. In the ‘90s he began writing songs and studied music at the Lionel Hampton School of Music in Moscow, Idaho. Tom has played in numerous bands and has performed as a solo artist throughout the Northwest; he continues to create new songs-another album is being planned for next year. Alan Silverstein-drums Alan has been playing drums for over 50 years and brings great versatility to the group. His experience includes playing with Mike Keneally (guitarist with Frank Zappa) in the band Drop Control during the late 80s and early 90s, as well as the Harry Partch Ensemble. He also was a member of the San Diego Reggae/Ska band, The Trousers, and has worked as a union musician in San Diego doing musicals and performing with the SD Symphony, SD Chamber Orchestra and many others. He received a BA in Music from San Diego State University. David Cordell- bass David began playing upright bass in high school with a progressive jazz group, The Northwest Jazz Quartet, in South Seattle- then moved to bass guitar-playing blues, rock and pop in a variety of bands over the last 50 years. He joined Lazuli Shoals in 2017 and enjoys matching bass lines and rhythms to the words and mood of the band’s original songs.
