Description

MIDDLETOWN, RI — Green End Avenue in Middletown will be closed until Friday as crews repair damage from Tuesday's torrential storms. Sections of Green End Avenue were damaged from the intersection with Aquidneck Avenue to Valley Road, and from Valley Road to the intersection with Miantonomi Avenue. Powerful storms Tuesday afternoon also knocked out power to parts of the town and rendered stop lights inoperable. More than 5,000 residents in the Newport and Middletown areas were without power at the height of the outages on Tuesday. The Middletown Department of Public Works on Wednesday announced the two sections of Green End Avenue will be closed until Friday so that debris can be removed and pavement repaired with asphalt. Valley Road and Aquidneck Avenue remain open to traffic. Drivers are encouraged to seek alternate routes and expect delays.
