Description

While we reboot Code for Vegas, we thought it might be fun to have a hackathon focused on a community resource, issue, or need... Transit! This event participation ticket is for the END of the Las Vegas Transit Hackathon. In order to be inclusive, and to make this event as accessible as visible as possible, the normal weekend up-all-night hackathon format was set aside while we try a multi-week hackathon format. Same idea, longer time frame, more inclusive. Commence as you read this (after you've grabbed a ticket, that is)! Gather your team or work alone, spend 24 hours daily or a few minutes when you can. Visit your favorite coffee shop, grab a spot at a co-work space, or try some creativity on a bus! The hackathon ends at 11am Saturday, 16 April, at Tech Alley in the Arts District in Downtown Las Vegas. From 11am-12:15pm, we will have a Show & Tell and the audience can check out the results of our first Code for Vegas hackathon! You will receive additional information about the hackathon as it progresses through the Eventbrite contact mechanisms, or you may join the Code for Vegas mailing list so that we can reach out from our home base! Send email to [email protected] A Hackathon is an event where you and your friends, colleagues, family members, or maybe just yourself, bring an idea, a problem, an issue, and work on a solution in a mildly-competitive environment. By focusing on a particular challenge with others, cross-pollination of ideas is possible! Code for Vegas was last active in Feb 2016, and we will be again! As a volunteer community organization, we will engage with our community and with municipal partners to make our Smart City even Smarter! This first event was selected from the headlines. There were many possibilities, so Public Transit was selected since many people use our public transit system, and many more people might have some areas of concern that relate to transit. Maybe you or someone you know would like to address something in the area of: Pedestrian SafetyBike shareBus accessibilityRider safetySoftware tools (mobile, web browser, other?)Information access, notificationsIssue reportingSomething nobody has thought of...The most interesting parts of hackathons come from that last item... something that you might think is a problem that nobody will address, an issue nobody will tackle. Bring it, share it, it might not be so uncommon an issue, and it might actually get addressed! You need not be a programmer. This event is open to all, and in fact the best outcomes will be a collaboration of technical and non-technical, scientific and artistic, expert and beginner. If you want to participate, you're already qualified! We intend to take focus areas from the community for our next hackathon events, which we hope to organize MONTHLY, with a similar extended timeframe and a Show & Tell finale that coincides with Tech Alley... if we miss you this time, we'll see you for the next!
