MIDDLETOWN, RI — Middletown residents once again had access to several town parks and parking lots this weekend after the lifting of the state's stay-at-home order. Playgrounds and beaches remain closed, for now, in an effort to cut down on crowds and maintain social distancing amid the early phases of the new coronavirus reopening. The Middletown Police Department will be actively monitoring the beaches, parks and the parking areas and enforcing these parking restrictions, as well as addressing any crowds or large numbers of people in public spaces. As of Saturday, the following parking areas have reopened: Albro Woods, Demery Park, Middletown Public Library, Valley Park, War Memorial Field at Berkley Peckham School, West Main Road Recreation Center and the Wyatt Road Soccer Fields. Parking lot have also been opened at schools where playground equipment remains off limits: Aquidneck Elementary School, Forest Avenue Elementary School, Gaudet Middle School, Middletown High School and Oliphant School. Some Middletown parks and beaches remain closed until further notice: Second Beach (Main Lot, Surfer's End), Third Beach (Boat Ramp, Town Beach), Dunlap-Wheeler Park, Howland Park, Linden Park, Paradise Park, Pebble Beach and Taggarts Ferry Landing All residents are advised to adhere to strict social distancing of staying at least 6 feet away from those not in your group or household, and to avoid any gathering in groups greater than five through at least May 22. Middletown encourages all residents to continue to be active and get out for walks or bicycle rides, but to do so close to their own homes.
