SAN FRANCISCO, CA — The BART service was out of operation since opening time at 8 a.m. Sunday but has been restored systemwide, the agency said shortly before 12:30 p.m. BART announced the system shutdown shortly before the day's operations were scheduled to start at 8 a.m. due to what it described as a computer communication problem. Service to all East Bay stations and as far as the Montgomery Street station was finally back up and running shortly before noon. The San Francisco Municipal Transportation Agency offered bus service between downtown San Francisco and Daly City on line 14R from Mission Street and special service between the Daly City, Balboa Park, and Glen Park BART stations. It's a "systemwide" computer issue, BART said on its website, so all trains and buses that are part of the service will remain closed indefinitely after the service's scheduled 8 a.m. Sunday start time. Bus service throughout BART's service area was be made available by their partner agencies, including MUNI, AC Transit, VTA, Tri Delta, CCCTA and WHEELS. Bay City News contributed to this report.
