Description

Hosted by the Missouri Invasive Plant Council, Johnson County Parks and Recreation District, and Deep Roots KC. Cut down an invasive Callery pear tree, get an ecologically beneficial tree in exchange! When you register, select only one tree. We are excited by the enthusiastic response to this event and want to make the free tree offer accessible to as many people as possible. To spread awareness about how the invasive Callery (Bradford) pear tree (Pyrus calleryana) causes harm to economics and environment, the Missouri Invasive Plant Council, Forest ReLeaf, and Deep Roots KC are hosting their first Callery Pear Buy-back in the Kansas City Area. Participants are invited to cut down their Callery pear tree and submit a photo of it to the Missouri Invasive Plant Council. The Pear Buy Back is financially supported by our friends at Johnson County Parks and Recreation District! Trees are sourced from Forrest Keeling nursery. The offer is limited to one native tree per photo proof of one cut-down Callery pear. When you register, select only one tree.At checkout, you will be given a link to a separate web page to submit your photo. Participants are invited to pick up their trees in the Prairie Village Pool parking lot from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. There will also be a native plant sale occurring at this location! Learn more about the Buy-back and the problems with Callery pear trees here. For further questions, please contact Tammy Thompson via email at [email protected] or phone at (816)301-7545 ext. 703.
