Description

Join us for a morning of coffee and dialogue centering on current educational issues in our south Minneapolis community. We invite the South Minneapolis community and current school board members to informally engage in conversation centering on ongoing issues that have played a role in educational policies since the time of the pairing of Hale and Field Elementary Schools in 1971. Reminiscent of the community coffee parties of the 1970’s, this program will be an informal gathering around dialogue and coffee. We ask participants to view Separate Not Equal: The Hale – Field Pairing exhibit, and reflect on the changes that were implemented after Brown v. Board of Education. Do these changes still exist in our current public school system? Was desegregation efforts successful in implementing permanent change? And finally, how do we see a way forward? There will be prompts available to help facilitate conversation. Image courtesy of the Star Tribune archives.
