Press release from Delaware State Chamber of Commerce: March 18, 2022 The leadership team from Saint Mark's High School was honored to be invited to speak at the National Conference on Catholic School Leadership. Their topic of discussion? Leadership During a Storm. President Tom Fertal, Vice President of Advancement Kristen Sullivan and Chairman of the Board Steve Hyde attended the conference in Naples, Florida March 6-9. They met with over 100 leaders in education from 35 high performing Catholic schools across the nation, discussing proven best practices on a variety of topics including leadership and teamwork with an eye toward inspiring Catholic School leaders to transform their school communities. The conference was organized by Partners in Mission. Fertal and Sullivan served on a panel explaining the importance of the "dynamic duo," a concept focusing on the relationship between the president and the vice president of advancement. Fertal shared the importance of the duo being in agreement on the vision for the school so they can work together to move it forward. Sullivan stressed the significance of engaging all faculty and staff in the mission of advancement, as well as the value of being a resource to them through development efforts. Hyde took part in a panel of Catholic school philanthropists, sharing thoughts on why he personally finds it important to invest in Catholic schools. He also discussed how school personnel can better understand the hearts and minds of major donors. "Serving on the panel of philanthropists was a heart-warming experience as I was able to share my love and support of Catholic education with dedicated professionals from around the country who labor every day in the vineyard. Seeing their enthusiasm and passion gave me hope for the future of Catholic schools," he said. Fertal was delighted to be invited to present at the conference. "It was a true honor to be able to share our experience at Saint Mark's with leaders from some of the most high-performing Catholic schools in the country," he said. Sullivan echoed the sentiment. "I find it both inspiring and energizing to hear what Catholic schools from across the country are doing to advance their missions. Sharing best practices empowers all Catholic schools to succeed," she said. This press release was produced by Delaware State Chamber of Commerce. The views expressed here are the author's own.
