Learn the importance of rain gardens to home landscape - location, plant selection, and maintenance - by touring the Ford House rain garden
With more unpredictable and extreme weather, rain gardens are playing a larger role in the home landscape.
The Grosse Pointe Garden Center offers TWO tours of rain gardens. The first is Wednesday, April 13 at 10:00 a.m. at the Ford House. Karl Koto, theFord House's Head of Landscape, Gardens and Grounds, leads the tour of their rain gardens.
Identify native plants, and see how they are strategically located to aid with introducing storm water into the ground water system naturally; understand the dynamics of the storm water abatement and how to apply parts of both models to the home landscape attractively.
Registration required.
No admission charge.
This event will be held rain or shine. Please dress accordingly.
The second rain garden tour is two weeks later on Wednesday, April 27 at 10:00 a.m. at the Oudolf Garden Detroit on Belle Isle.
