We have around 100 2-3 year old laying hens at our farm who will be retired this year and are available to join your backyard flock. Getting an adult laying hen for your backyard flock is a GREAT alternative to purchasing chicks. You will start getting eggs right away, you will not need to spend money on special chick feeders, waterers and heat lamps. Most importantly, you will avoid ending up with a rooster. These girls have been raised on pasture their whole lives and eat a no-GMO ration. The breed is either red or black star. They lay brown eggs. Chickens can live around 8 years and will continue to lay eggs, just not as many as their first and second season. $5/bird is due ahead of pick up (sorry, but we get burned on no-shows a lot).
