Press release from the Fresno County Sheriff's Office: March 22, 2022 Fresno County Sheriff Margaret Mims recognized a small portion of the hundreds of volunteers at our department. County of Fresno Supervisors proclaimed April 2022 as National Volunteer Appreciation Month. Thank you to all of our volunteers for your selfless service. The proclamation reads: IN THE MATTER OF HONORING NATIONAL VOLUNTEER APPRECIATION MONTH WHEREAS, Volunteers in Fresno County Sheriff's Office are members of our community who step up to fill the gap in times of need. These are people who give up their own time,providing many hours of service with no pay in return. Their generosity and skills play a critical role in making our county a better place to live; and WHEREAS, Volunteers are a diverse representation of our community, including residents of all ages who serve with their families, friends, co-workers and social and faith-based organizations; and WHEREAS, Volunteers serve in many capacities, some of which include: Search and Rescue, Chaplaincy Programs, Sheriff's Foundation, Uniform Field Reserves (UFR) and the Compassionate Officer Program (COP); They drop everything at a moment's notice to console a grieving family, provide food or shelter. When someone goes missing, they leave their families for days at a time, often enduring frigid temperatures and dangerous elements in the wilderness. They also provide security at events to ensure visitors are protected; and WHEREAS, these volunteers save local agencies and organizations millions of dollars each year. Money which is then made available for use in other critical areas of our department. This press release was produced by the Fresno County Sheriff's Office.
