JOHNSTON, RI — Johnston police will resume fingerprint background checks and vehicle identification checks with new protocols beginning on Monday. Fingerprint background checks will be available to Johnston residents by appointment only. Walk-ins will not be accepted. Those in need of a fingerprint check should contact BCI Clerk Michelle DiPetrillo for an appointment at 757-3148. Residents should not arrive early for their appointment and will be contacted by DiPetrillo when she is ready for the check. Visitors will be escorted inside the police station and must wear a face mask at all times. They must bring their own pen to fill out the application. Residents should cancel their appointments if they are experiencing any COVID-related symptoms. DiPetrillo will be wearing gloves and a mask, and all areas will be sanitized following each appointment. Annmarie Rossi-Sabitoni is the contact for the vehicle checks. Those checks are also by appointment only with all the same safety protocols of the fingerprinting procedures. Johnston had 221 positive cases of coronavirus as of Wednesday, according to the state's Department of Health.
