Description
JOHNSTON, RI — Johnston police have canceled an arrest warrant issued for a suspect wanted in connection with a shooting on Atwood Avenue around midnight last Thursday.
Police said the victim initially identified the suspect as the shooter, but later was unwilling to provide a statement or aid investigators.
Police said the victim, who was shot in the leg, recanted his original story and identification of the shooter when investigators attempted to formally interview him on Monday afternoon.
"Based on his inconsistencies, and unwillingness to pursue a complaint, the warrant was canceled," Johnston Deputy Police Chief Joseph Razza said in a statement on Tuesday.
Razza thanked the public for helping provide information on where the suspect may have been at large.
