JOHNSTON, RI — State residents will have a chance to get rid of hazardous household waste for free in Johnston on Jan. 18. The Eco-Depot collection — hosted by Rhode Island Resource Recovery Corporation — will run from 8 a.m. to noon at Resource Recovery's facility at 65 Sun Pike.
Organizers urge setting up an appointment in advance to reduce time spent in line.
Eco-Depot provides for the proper handling, packaging, storage, transportation and disposal of hazardous household waste. Since 2001, Resource Recovery said it has collected approximately 13.1 million pounds of hazardous waste and served more than 175,000 state residents.
Items accepted, which should not be placed in standard trash collection, include: fluorescent light bulbs, gasoline, oil-based paints, disinfectants, used motor oil, lawn equipment tanks and propane tanks.
