EAST PROVIDENCE, RI — The dogs are going to have their day at the park in East Providence. The City Council has unanimously approved the city's first-ever dog park for a section of land near Hunts Millers on Elden Street. City Council President Ronald Britto introduced the ordinance for the park that will be open to East Providence residents only. Licensed and vaccinated dogs will be allowed in the park to run around and socialize with other dogs. "Listening to constituent concerns and being a pet owner," Britto said, "this is a great opportunity to be able to allow your dog to be loose and to run and play with other animals. And it's a more controlled setting where pets have to be screened." Dog owners must obtain a free dog park permit from the City Hall clerk's office for each licensed dog that will be at the park. Dogs that have been deemed dangerous, aggressive or vicious will not be allowed within the park. An opening date has not be determined, but a grand opening ceremony is planned for what that occurs.
