Description
EAST PROVIDENCE, RI — A road project designed to reduce chronic flooding in the Taunton Avenue area of East Providence began this week. The $4.8 million project includes stormwater improvements and will require periodic lane closures. It is scheduled to be completed in Spring 2021.
Construction began this week at the Park & Ride lot on Taunton Avenue close to the Massachusetts state line. A portion of the lot will be used for construction of a stormwater bioretention basin that will collect runoff from the road, treat it, and slowly release it to avoid flooding issues. The RI DOT said the lot will remain open for RIPTA bus riders and carpoolers throughout the project, with commuter spots planned for when the project is completed next year.
Roadwork will begin in the next few weeks and may require weekday lane closures between 7 a.m. and 3 p.m. RI DOT said at lead one lane will remain open at all times during daytime work.
The project will include resurfacing, drainage structures, curing and repairs. For information on the project can be found here.
