EAST PROVIDENCE, RI — East Providence police are crediting two local residents who live on the Turner Reservoir for saving a life last week.
Police said city resident Kyle Long and Seekonk resident Edward Turnbull heard a man in distress calling out after his kayak overturned in the chilly water on Wednesday. Before East Providence and Seekonk police and fire arrived, they said Long and Turnball were able to reach the victim in their canoe and pull him to shore where he was treated.
Police said the victim told them is kayak overturned and he was having trouble staying afloat as his kayak became submerged. Long and Turnbull heard the calls for help and responded.
"If not for the swift action of Mr. Long and Mr. Turnbull this incident may have had a tragic ending," East Providence police said.
