EAST PROVIDENCE, RI — The East Providence Police Department welcomed two new officers on Monday as part of the city's later officer program.
Officer Donald Delaere is a former Scituate police chief and Officer Scott Slack was a sergeant with the Pawtucket Police Department.
Delaere was with the Scituate Police Department for 23 years after beginning as a patrol officer in 1997. He retired as chief there in 2020.
He was also a Corrections Officer with the Wyatt Detention Facility. Delaere is a member of the Rhode Island Police Chief Association, New England Police Chief Association and International Police Chief Association. Delaere earned a Master of Science in Administration of Justice from Anna Maria College and a Bachelor of Arts in Justice Studies from Rhode Island College.
Slack was a 20-year member of the Pawtucket Police Department and retired at the rank of Sergeant. He served as a certified firearms instructor and Field Training Officer.
Slack was also a member of the Pawtucket Police Motorcycle Unit, Stress Management Team and Honor Guard, as well as a member of the Rhode Island Motor Officers Association. Slack was a corporal with the First battalion 25th Marines, 4th Marine Division USMC and also studied criminal justice at Roger Williams University.
