Description
EAST PROVIDENCE, RI — The Weaver Library became the first of the East Providence libraries to reopen this week with hours Monday through Thursday from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m.
Riverside will continue with "library takeout" until it is ready for opening. Fuller's in-person program is also expected to resume soon.
Weaver Library said in a statement that it hopes to add more services and hours as the summer continues.
"Most public buildings were not constructed with pandemics in mind, and our libraries are no different," the statement said. "We have thus had to work hard to ensure compliance with the regulations regarding public access during COVID-19. ... When reviewing our new policies and rules, please be aware that they are in place to protect you from harm as well as our other patrons in staff."
Seniors, and those considered at-risk for coronavirus symptoms, hours will be allocated from 9 a.m. to 10 a.m. Those who are not feeling well are urged not to enter the library.
The children's room and teen area will remain closed for now.
Patrons must wear face coverings and limit their stay to no more than 30 minutes due to occupancy limits. Physical distancing of at least 6 feet or more will be enforced within the library.
Public computers are available by appointment for one-hour sessions. All returned material will be quarantined for at least 24 hours.
"We ask that you be patient with us as we navigate this unfamiliar terrain," library officials requested. "These policies are in place for your safety, and we will be refining them as necessary in the coming weeks. In any event, welcome back — and hopefully for a long time."
