Description

Celebrate National Walking Day and discuss how to walk your errands With the new Wegman's set to open in May, now is the perfect time to talk about how to walk to get your groceries and accomplish other errands. Hear from people who are experienced at walking for errands -- which bags do they prefer, how do they prepare, how do they combine public transportation with walking? Find out how walking for errands can help improve your health and the planet's health too. This free event is co-sponsored by GO Alex and the Alexandria Bicycle and Pedestrian Advisory Committee, to celebrate National Walking Day on April 6. The walk will be about 1 mile and will cover parts of the Eisenhower East neighborhood. All are welcome, including families with strollers. Well-behaved dogs on leashes are welcome too! We'll meet at the Eisenhower Avenue metro station, by the bus shelters. For everyone's health and safety, we'll be taking the following precautions: -- asking everyone to self-screen and not participate if they've experienced symptoms of covid or been exposed to a known covid case within the last 14 days -- asking people who are not fully vaccinated to give others at least 6 feet of space while walking -- keeping an eye on local covid conditions, and cancelling the walk if needed About GO Alex: GO Alex encourages the reduction of automobile dependence, increasing mobility, and improving air quality through the promotion of public transit, ridesharing, bicycling, and walking as money and time-saving alternatives. GO Alex also works to improve the commuter experience, assisting employers with creating customized commuter programs for their employees. About BPAC: BPAC is an all-volunteer 501(c)(3) that promotes walking and biking, and infrastructure and policy changes that create a safe, accessible, and livable city for all.
