Description

OK Roots Music co presents DDAT OK Roots Music & LowDown present the 8th annual Global BASH Ages 21+ DDAT New Mexico based quartet mixing world class jazz with Hip Hop stylings Boasting a fresh and modern patina, Navajo trumpeter Delbert Anderson performs regularly with his world-class jazz trio as well as his new collaborative group D’DAT, which is the Delbert Anderson Trio plus lyricist Def-i, an ensemble inspired by ancient Native American melodies fused with jazz, hip hop, funk and soul. A Top-10 runner up for NPR’s Tiny Desk Concert series, D’DAT’s critically acclaimed debut Roadrunner is 11 songs blending Def-i’s intelligent poetry and hip-hop style with the hard driving funk-jazz jams of Delbert Anderson (Trumpet), Nicholas Lucero (Drums) and Mike McCluhan (Bass). Funky, complex, forward thinking and 0ut of the box, D’DAT has carved a high-desert path that modulates time and still manages to get people dancing. A recipient of the Western Arts Alliance Launchpad Award, a Caldera Residency, and the APAP Doris Duke Access Award, Anderson developed a passion for jazz and improvisation in his early years playing drums and singing for the church in northern New Mexico. He went on to attend Eastern New Mexico University, studying music education and trumpet performance. Anderson directs the San Juan College Jazz Big Band and Combo in Farmington, NM and is actively involved with the mentor program NAMP – Native American Music Program, the Native American Composers Initiative, and Advancing Indigenous Performers. In addition to touring, he is currently recording music for independent films. DDAT
