Mybookplace.net sat down with Author Amere Dozier last month. The South Bend native talked with them about his upcoming summer tour, the best advice he’s ever received, his favorite author and more. The transcript for the interview is below. See what the 21-year-old has to say! Q: Tell us about yourself and your books.: A: I'm a young dude that writes urban stories to inspire the urban community to read more and create more content. The people who create the content in this world has the say so and we need more people from the urban community with say so. Q: What authors have influenced you? A: My favorite author would probably have to be Jaquavis Coleman just because of how much work he puts out on a consistent basis. I mean the stories are good too but he has over 30 books out. Some people die without dropping a piece of content a day in their life. I respect him for that. Q: Do you have any advice for new authors? A: I mean to be honest I'm still new to this myself. If I HAD to pick some piece of advice though it would probably be to just be patient. I rush through a lot and have been working on my patience lately. So patience is key. Q: What is the best advice you have ever heard? A: Best advice I have ever gotten would have to be um….don't stress what you can't change. My grandma told me that. It's something I'll die with because it makes a lot of sense if you think about it. Q: What are you reading now? A: I've been reading two books. "The Richest Man in Babylon" by George Clason and "Judas" by Jaquavis Coleman. Q: What’s your biggest weakness? A: My biggest weakness would have to be just how perpetual I am. I have never changed. I've been the same dude since elementary and you can even ask people that I grew up with. Change is good sometimes though so at some point I'm going to have to grow into something different. Q: What is your favorite book of all time? A: The "Bandit Boyz" series aha. Q: What has inspired you and your writing style? A: I grew up liking writing anyway. Like in school when we would do journals and stuff I was always excited. I'm just inspired by everything around me. My people and where I'm from is what inspired almost everything I do, not even just write. Q: What are you working on now? A: I got something I am just now starting and something that's halfway done. I've definitely got some work coming in 2020. Q: What is your method for promoting your work? A: Before our promotion method was simple. It was just social media and local media outlets. For this upcoming tour we want to turn it up a little bit by putting all of the signings and stuff on camera. YouTube is too big of a platform for us to not put more content on there. Q: What’s next for you as a writer? A: Well as I just mentioned I have a tour coming up. My next release is called "Counterfiet: The Dre Owens Story". It's about a dude from St. Louis who just recently graduated high school. After his childhood home catches on fire he ends up being forced to move to Indianapolis with his cousin and aunt for a few months before he heads to college. His few months in Indianapolis doesn't go as smooth as planned. This comes out on June 5. The tour starts a week after. We're already booked in Salt Lake, Louisville, and St. Louis. Q: How well do you work under pressure? A: I feel like I work well under pressure. It's just a matter of getting it done and getting it done right. Q: How do you decide what tone to use with a particular piece of writing? A: It usually depends on the main character to be honest. One thing I always felt though is people will never read the story in the tone you write it in. I could be wrong though.
