The Dunbar Historic Neighborhood Association will celebrate the life, legacy and classical compositions of Little Rock's own Florence Price The Dunbar Historic Neighborhood Association will celebrate the life, legacy and classical compositions of Little Rock's own Florence B. Price and her vital role in Arkansas’ rich African American cultural heritage. The DHNA invites you to celebrate her birthday party and concert on April 9, 2022, at the Mosaic Templars Cultural Center, located at 501.W. Ninth Street in downtown Little Rock. The upcoming concert will take place from 6-7:30 p.m. Born in the city’s historic Dunbar Historic District in 1887, Price was the first African American woman composer to have her music performed by a major American orchestra, and one of the first African American classical composers to gain international attention. Last year, Gov. Asa Hutchinson issued an official proclamation observing that birth date on April 9 as Florence Price Day in Arkansas The Little Rock concert event will feature an assortment of Price's compositions by Dr. Karen Walwyn. Like Price, the Howard University associate music professor is also trailblazing musician and the first female African American pianist composer to receive the prestigious Steinway Artist Award. Besides Walwyn, other featured musical guests at the upcoming event will include Linda Holzer, a music professor at the University of Arkansas at Little Rock; local opera singer Nesheeda Golden, a mezzo-soprano; and baritone Ronald W.
