EAST GREENWICH, RI—A former East Greenwich woman who is serving time for stealing millions of dollars from family, friends, and associates is asking for early release from prison, citing reasons including her health concerns regarding COVID-19 and her ex-husband's inability to care for their children. Monique Brady, 45, filed for compassionate release from federal prison in Danbury, Connecticut, where she is serving an eight-year sentence for wire fraud, aggravated identity theft, and trying to obstruct an IRS investigation after persuading family, friends, and associates to invest in her company, MNB LLC, according to the Providence Journal. Although she claimed to be overseeing renovations on foreclosed properties and promised to split profits with her investors, she instead used the money to pay for personal expenses and luxuries. Brady argues that because she was formerly a smoker, has an elevated body mass index, and is undergoing a course of cortisone injections, she qualifies as vulnerable to COVID-19 under Centers for Disease Control guidelines. She also asserts that her ex-husband, Thomas Brady, is unable to care for their daughter and special needs son. Brady is seeking compassionate release under the First Step Act, a law enacted during the COVID-19 pandemic that allows judges to reduce sentences under "extraordinary and compelling" circumstances. She is currently scheduled to be released on February 16, 2026.
