EAST GREENWICH, RI — East Greenwich is looking for volunteers to help deliver meals and provide other services to seniors and those most vulnerable to be exposed to the new coronavirus. The volunteers should be those in categories considered "healthy low risk" of suffering significant health complications from a coronavirus infection. In the coming days, volunteers may be called on for food delivery, support services and possible transportation for seniors and other vulnerable citizens. Those interested should contact 886-8626 or [email protected] where the staff will take your information. Greenwich Town Officials also announced that as of Monday all town playgrounds were closed. Parks, fields, trails and athletic areas will remain open, but strict guidelines to social distance regulations and limiting crowd side to 10 or less will be enforced. Twenty-three new cases of the virus were reported in the state on Monday, bringing the state's total number of cases to 106. The 23 new patients range in age from people in their 20s to 90s, said Dr. Nicole Alexander-Scott, the Director of Health at the Rhode Island Department of Health. At this time, there are currently four people who are being treated for COVID-19 in the hospital, and none of the new cases were nursing home residents, she said.
