SAN CLEMNTE, CA — Orange County officials reported 96 new cases of coronavirus, and one more death Thursday. A total of 52 residents of San Clemente have tested positive for the virus. In Orange County, 3,092 residents have tested positive, and the county now has a death toll of 66. Fourteen people have died from the disease since Monday, Orange County Health Care Agency officials say. The number of patients hospitalized with the virus dropped from 202 on Tuesday to 192 on Wednesday, and further to 186 on Thursday. The number of patients in intensive care dropped this week from 73 to 69. The total number of people in the county tested for the virus increased to 43,351 with 1,324 tests reported Wednesday. With all of the county's beaches now open for active use, residents who love the coast have the chance to walk, swim, paddle or surf in the Pacific as of Wednesday. With the governor's loosening of restrictions set to begin Friday, the county officials are hammering at a plan that calls for clarity in the reopening of Orange County. Supervisor Lisa Bartlett said her office has received hundreds of phone calls from residents inquiring whether the county is allowing businesses to reopen.
