NEW ORLEANS – The Mayor's Neighborhood Engagement Office (NEO) today held its inaugural Community Cares Day at the Keller Community Center in Central City. More than 75 volunteers spent the morning cleaning the community, collecting more than 50 trash bags and dozens of bulk items.
NEO partnered with HandsOn New Orleans for the cleanup, and CORE New Orleans, New Orleans East Hospital, Ochsner Health, PeeWee's Crab Cakes, and Heard Dat Kitchen for a resource fair. Several City departments and community organizations also joined the event to provide job opportunities, resource information, COVID-19 vaccines and giveaways.
During the Community Cares Day, the Mayor distributed checks to 16 of the 17 recipients of NEO's Community Impact Grant, which provides funding to neighborhood organizations and nonprofits to strengthen green infrastructure and beautify neighborhoods.
