Press release from the City of Knoxville - Blog: March 17, 2022 Victim from Fatal Washington Pike Crash Identified (March 17, 2022, 2:50 p.m.) The victim from the fatal crash that occurred on Wednesday, March 16, 2022 on Washington Pike at Steeple Shadow Way has been identified as Norma Norton, 79 of Knoxville, Tennessee. The crash remains under investigation by KPD Crash Reconstruction personnel. At around 12:30 p.m. on Wednesday, March 16, 2022, Knoxville Police Department officers responded to a crash on Washington Pike at Steeple Shadow Way. The preliminary investigation shows that a dump truck was traveling west on Washington Pike when it struck a sedan that pulled out of Babelay Road in the passenger side. The impact caused the sedan to flip. The driver of the sedan was pronounced dead on the scene. There were no other occupants in the sedan, and no other injuries were reported in the crash. KPD Crash Reconstruction investigators, Crime Lab personnel and Medical Examiner personnel responded to the scene to begin the investigation, which remains in the early stages.
