Here are the top three stories today in Charleston: The National Weather Service has issued a Fire Watch for the Charleston area today, Mar. 26. The Fire Watch will be in effect between noon and 8:00 PM, according to the service. The watch is an attempt to notify the community that gusty winds and low humidity conditions will cause a fire to spread rapidly. (Live 5 News WCSC)North Charleston Councilmember Jerome Heyward wants to spend millions to install sidewalks and streetlights in the Northpointe neighborhood. According to Heyward, a lack of sidewalks is a public safety concern since a large portion of that community uses walking as a major form of transportation. It is unclear how the councilmember will fund the project. (Live 5 News WCSC)In an attempt to fill a large number of staff vacancies, the North Charleston City Council unanimously approved a one-time salary increase for city employees. The raise will be $2,000 for all full-time employees, and the minimum wage will be increased to $15 per hour for part-time employees. The raises will go into effect on Apr. 4, 2022.
