PROVIDENCE, RI — Providence have made some noise in the 2022 NCAA basketball tournament. But on Friday night, the No. 4 seed Friars will face their toughest opponent yet in the Sweet 16 against No. 1 seed Kansas.
Coming off a 79-51 stomping of No. 12 Richmond, the Friars are heavy underdogs in this next one. Oddsmakers give the Jayhawks a 75 percent chance to win, according to the odds aggregating site oddschecker.com.
To compete, the team is going to need big performances from its star bigs once again, forward Noah Horchler and center Nate Watson. Horchler finished against Richmond with 16 points and 14 rebounds, while team leading scorer Watson is averaging 13.5 points and 0.7 blocks per game.
Defense in particular will be a key against the Jayhawks, who rank 6th in offensive efficiency rankings and 27th in defensive efficiency. The Friars finished the season ranked 31st and 56th in the rankings, respectively.
How To Watch Providence (27-5) and Kansas (30-6) will square off at 7:29 p.m., Friday. The game will air on TBS, both through its cable and streaming platforms.
