Description

By John Gibson, WNIN March 25, 2022 The CenterPoint Foundation has made a donation to help needy families pay their bills. WNIN's John Gibson has details: The foundation has donated $100,000 to Hope of Evansville. Hope Development Director Nikki Waller tells WNIN the assistance can't be used toward CenterPoint bills but it can help indirectly: "You know, the assistance towards rent or a mortgage payment would offset the funds needed to pay the utility bills." Waller says the donation is the first new funding for Hope since it exhausted its pandemic relief money. She says the new money will help the group's outreach: "Prices aren't going down and so we want to work with people to not only help them over the hump but we want to help them plan for the future. So with this program we will be doing budgeting as well." Income eligible residents can apply for the assistance at hopeofevansville.org CenterPoint Energy's natural gas bills rose dramatically over the winter, prompting the company to halt disconnections through May.
