JOLIET, IL — A 16-year-old boy who wasn't using his turning signals while driving on Joliet's east side was arrested Thursday night after Joliet police say he ran from his car, holding his clear plastic bag of marijuana. The boy also had a loaded 9 mm gun, according to police reports.
Officers chased after the boy and captured him in the 400 block of Jackson Street. He is now staying at the River Valley Juvenile Justice Center where he's charged with aggravated unlawful use of a weapon, unlawful possession of ammunition, having no Firearm Owner's Identification card, obstructing a peace officer and marijuana possession.
The incident unfolded around 8:05 p.m. when officers pulled over the boy's car near Collins and Clay Streets for a turning signal violation.
"The juvenile opened a passenger door and fled from the vehicle while holding his waistband," police spokesman Dwayne English announced. "Officers caught up to the juvenile in a yard in the 400 block of Jackson Street and placed him into custody."
Police say the boy had a clear bag of marijuana, and a loaded gun was found on the ground near the location where officers chased down the boy.
