Here are the top three stories today in Grand Rapids: A Grand Rapids organization has launched a new program to help individuals with criminal convictions find and keep jobs. Local nonprofit Guiding Light has introduced "The Job Post," which partners with the Goodwill Offender Success Program to match candidates with appropriate jobs. The program provides additional support, including transportation and career coaching, to ensure participants are successful in their work. (WOODTV.com)The City of Grand Rapids, the W.K. Kellogg Foundation, Doug & Maria DeVos Foundation, and West Michigan Works! have been recognized for implementing a new process designed to improve equity in hiring. Grand Rapids partnered with HireReach to provide training workshops, individual consulting support, and ongoing support in implementing evidence-based practices. The goal of the new hiring system was to provide equal access to opportunity in employment. (grbj.com)A former employee of Calvin University is speaking out on her decision to quit for one specific reason: the private Christian school's policy on same-sex marriage. Nicole Sweda, who has been married to her wife for eight years, worked for the university's Center for Social Research. According to Sweda, the university informed her she was in violation of the school's same-sex marriage policy. The former employee said to FOX 17, "It is hard to wrestle with the fact that I should be someone that they're proud to say works for them. And they're not. Only because I'm married to a woman."
