COBB COUNTY, GA — An Atlanta man is behind bars after police say he walked away from a fatal crash in Cobb County, leaving his wallet and ID behind.
Just before 3 a.m. Wednesday, Garet Henderson, 36, was headed southbound on Dallas Acworth Highway when he crossed into the northbound lanes and crashed head-on into a Nissan, driven by Robert Ellis, 59, of Acworth.
Ellis was taken to Wellstar Kennestone Hospital, but he died from his injuries, police said.
Henderson walked away from the scene without waiting for police or rendering aid, according to his arrest warrant; however, he left his wrecked Silverado, wallet and ID at the scene. Police also found heroin and methamphetamine in his truck.
Georgia State Patrol troopers showed up at Henderson's home in College Park on Wednesday afternoon, where he was arrested.
According to the warrant, Henderson had a swollen left hand with fresh abrasions, a fresh injury to his left eye, and fresh scratches on the left side of his neck and his left lower leg when troopers arrested him, the Marietta Daily Journal reported.
Henderson faces five charges, including felony hit and run, vehicular homicide, failure to maintain lane, possession of methamphetamine and possession of heroin. He was booked into the Cobb County jail without bond.
